Hey Folks!

This is Zach Norton. I am the Owner and Head Guide here at Blue Ridge Troutfitters. I was born and raised here in Blue Ridge, GA. I attended college at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, GA. After college, I served as a middle school science teacher and basketball coach for 7 years. I like to think that my time as an educator helped equip me with the patience, teaching, and entertainment skills required in order to be a nearly adequate trout fishing guide. So, it came to be that I traded in my cinderblock walled classroom for a new classroom where the only walls are the rhododendron and mountain laurel plants which line the banks of North Georgia's trout filled rivers and streams. In 2019, I started working for other local guide services and did so for several years. Then, in 2023, I started Blue Ridge Troutfitters.

Over the years, I've been blessed to share some great days on the water with some great clients. I take great pride in working hard for my clients to give them the best experience possible. A great experience means different things for different clients, different seasons, and even day to day conditions.

At the end of the day, it is fishing, not catching, and the fish get a vote too. That said, the non-negotiables for a good experience are knowledgeable and safe guides with good character, good attitudes, good preparation, good teaching skills, and good people skills. What I've found is that when we take care of those things, the catching and the good experience tend to take care of themselves.

Cancellation / Reschedule / Refund Policy

Free cancellation up to 5 days before the trip. If you need to cancel up to 5 days before the trip, I will seek to reschedule. If rescheduling is not possible, I will issue a refund. In the event that I need to cancel due to weather, water conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances, I will seek to reschedule. If that is not an option, I will issue a refund. We fish in a variety of weather conditions including light rain. Cancellations / Refunds / Reschedules due to weather / conditions are at the guides' discretion. We DO NOT PLAN to fish if unsafe weather conditions are likely. We DO NOT PLAN to fish if highly uncomfortable weather conditions are likely. Lastly, we DO NOT PLAN to fish if water quality is such that guides do not have reasonable expectations for success.

Additional Information

We offer Guided Float and Wade Trips on the Toccoa River and other Tributary Streams in / near Blue Ridge, GA. We target Rainbow, Brown, and Brook Trout on all of our trips. Float Trips can typically accommodate up to 8 people spread out between multiple boats (each boat seats 2 people plus a guide MAX). Wade Trips can typically accommodate up to 4 people. We operate on a 2:1 Max Client to Guide Ratio for all trips ensuring that all anglers get ample guide support.
Half Day Floats are by far our most popular trip option as they are our only trip option that is available for booking year -round. Float Trips are Light Tackle and / or Fly Fishing. Wade Trips are Fly Fishing only. All trips are strictly Catch and Release. We provide all the necessary rods, gear, and tackle for all trips (including waders for Wade Trips). All experience levels are welcome on all trips. Our minimum recommended age is 10+ for Light Tackle (Float Trips only) or 14+ for Fly Fishing (Float or Wade Trips). Minors must be accompanied by an adult. All anglers 16 years of age and older need valid Georgia Fishing Licenses. Hat, Sunglasses, and Rain Jackets are recommended for all trips. Guides will have coolers with ice, bottled water, and room for client beverages / lunch / snacks for all trips. Clients should bring their own lunch / snacks for Full Day Floats and 6 Hour Public Water Wades (if needed). Bringing lunch for Half Day and 3 Hour Trips isn't recommended. Clients are welcome to bring their own SMALL cooler. We ask that clients be mindful of the size of the boats and only bring items that they absolutely need. Feet will stay dry on all Float Trips unless it rains (sandals, tennis shoes, or boots are all fine).
